Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival

Competition Part I

Rose Theater

The annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival is one of the most innovative jazz education events in the world. Each year, high school musicians from across North America travel to New York City to spend three days immersed in workshops, jam sessions, rehearsals and competition performances at the "House of Swing." The three top placing bands will go on to perform with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in the final concert at Avery Fisher Hall.

Free tickets for competition Parts I, II and III, limit of 2 tickets per person per competition part, can be obtained at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, Broadway at 60th Street beginning April 25. Availability is limited.

Join the top three high school jazz bands in the country and guest soloist Wynton Marsalis as they brag in brass, reeds and swing. Not to be outdone, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra takes to the stage in an all-Ellington set, just to remind these student musicians they've still got a ways to go.
