(New York, NY) March 7, 2005 - Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola

Rose Hall – presents Bobby Watson & Horizon with Terrell Stafford, Ed Simon, Essiet Okon Essiet and Victor Lewis, performing music from Horizon Reassembled, their new recording on Palmetto Records. For this new recording and performances, Watson has reconvened the original members of Horizon!

Bobby Watson, former member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, is an alto player with the dexterity of Bird and the sound of a giant. Watson has recorded more than twenty recordings as a leader, but it is his mid-90s group, Horizon, that stands out as his most powerful artistic statement. Watson has reconvened all the original members for Original Horizon, proving that when you have a band this good, the passage of time is irrelevant. It sounds as though they've never been apart. Watson and Horizon will be performing music from their new CD release, Horizon Reassembled, on Palmetto Records.
Bobby Watson on Dizzy Gillespie:
Dizzy was a great influence on me, I came in contact with him when I was a young man in Kansas City and he never forgot who I was over the years. As I grew up and married and had kids, he became their uncle Diz. I feel so proud to have known him. He was a giant, someone who even after his chops diminished, his appeal continued to grow. He knew the value of a hug and a smile.

The king of the Hammond B3 joins forces with trombonist Fred Wesley (James Brown, George Clinton, Count Basie) to deliver some funky, swinging versions of tunes from the Doctor's newest CD on Palmetto Records, Too Darn Hot!.
Dr. Lonnie Smith is internationally known as one of the premier jazz keyboardists in the history of the idiom. A dominant talent and pace-setting proponent of the Hammond B3 Organ and widely recognized pianist, Lonnie has been at the forefront of the jazz scene since 1969 when Downbeat Magazine named him "Top Organist". Most recently he was awarded "Organ Keyboardist of the Year 2002 & 2003" by The Jazz Journalist Association.
Smith was born in Buffalo, N.Y. into a musical family that had both a singing group and a radio show. Smith credits his mother as a major influence in his musical career, introducing him to gospel, classical and jazz music. As a young man in the 1950s, Smith sang in several groups including the Teen Kings. Music storeowner Art Kubera gave Smith his first Hammond B3 organ. From his early years with George Benson to present day performances and recordings, Lonnie has acquired critical acclaim for his brilliant work in the jazz world. After recording several albums with Benson, Lonnie became a solo recording artist and developed a career that has produced over 30 albums under his own name. Several legendary jazz artists have joined Dr. Lonnie Smith on his albums, including Lee Morgan, David "Fat Head" Newman, King Curtis, Blue Mitchell, and Joe Lovano among others. Lonnie has performed at the major jazz festivals with Dizzy Gillespie, Grover Washington, Jr., Ron Carter, Lou Donaldson, Jimmy McGriff, Jimmy Scott, Frank Foster, Leon Thomas, Willis Jackson and other prominent jazz artists. His extraordinary range has also included performances with the rhythm and blues greats Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Etta James, Esther Phillips, the Impressions and the Coasters. Dr. Lonnie Smith's album, Lenox and Seventh Avenue, recorded in Paris, has become a classic jazz tour de force.
