The following live competition performances were recorded at the 16th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival held at Rose Theater in New York City, May 13-14, 2011. The tracks are listed below in order of competition performance in MP3 streaming format, playable using a Flash player. You must have Flash installed to listen to these. In February 2011, these 15 finalist bands and winning community ensemble were selected from 110 bands across North America who submitted a recording for the Essentially Ellington competition. In April 2011, each of these finalist bands received an in-school workshop with a Jazz at Lincoln Center clinician before traveling to New York. These competition performances are the culmination of a school year spent studying and performing the music of Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
