Want to teach jazz more effectively?

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy (BDA) emphasizes hands-on learning and techniques that can be immediately applied in the classroom. This year’s BDA focuses on teaching improvisation.  Using the blues as the entry to improvisation, this curriculum will focus on the transcription process, listening sessions, and choosing repertoire for various levels of players.  There will also be demonstrations on how to teach improvisation in a big band setting.  The four-day session also includes jam sessions, topic discussions and a faculty concert.
