Tuition and Scholarships

Tuition
$350    General Tuition – includes classes, materials, concerts and two meals.
$300    Essentially Ellington 2009-2010 band directors
$300    Undergraduate music education students

Travel Reimbursement Scholarships

We are pleased to offer scholarships to directors who need assistance in covering the cost of attending the Academy. These monetary awards are intended to help defray costs of transportation and accommodations, and will range from $50 to $350 per person. Scholarships will not cover all travel and accommodation expenses.

To apply for a scholarship, please submit your registration form and a letter on your school’s letterhead indicating the following:

  • Estimated total expenses for transportation and hotel costs
  • Anticipated income from your school, band boosters, self, and others
  • Short paragraph explaining your financial situation, anticipated fundraising events, special circumstances, and any other information you may deem important

Submit scholarship requests along with a registration form by April 23, 2010. You will be notified by May 21, 2010. Checks will be disbursed at registration on the first day the session.

Accommodations and Meals:

Academy activities will take place in Frederick P. Rose Hall, the home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Columbus Circle area of New York City. Accommodations are the responsibility of participants.  We have provided a list of nearby housing options below.

Local Parking Information

Meals
Dinner at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola on the final night of BDA, as well as a brown bag lunch on Sunday, is included in your tuition. BDA participants are responsible for purchasing all other meals. A list of local restaurants will be provided.

Graduate Credit:

Optional graduate credit will be offered from Northern Illinois University for participation in BDA. The registration and fees for this optional graduate credit must be arranged directly with NIU, and are separate from the BDA tuition paid to Jazz at Lincoln Center. The PDF below includes detailed information about the registration, fees, and contact information for the NIU graduate credit option. Please note the deadline for registering for graduate credit is June 25th, the first day of BDA. After this date, the graduate credit option will no longer be availabe.
