But what he was really saying was: unless you ask, you'll never know. This marvelously entertaining program for grades 2-12 will answer this most basic question in an exciting and swinging fashion. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis won't just tell you - or even show you - what jazz is, rather they will make you feel the true meaning of jazz way down deep in your soul! SPRING 2011 CONCERTS Rose Theater Jazz for Young People: What is the Big Band Era? Hosted by Ted Nash and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra Friday, March 25, 2011, Rose Theater, 10am & 12:15pm Professional Development Session Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Even 75 years after the big band era, scholars and fans - not to mention dancers - agree that this was the period when jazz reached its peak, not only of popularity but of musical greatness. Ted Nash leads the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in a program sampling all the major big bands - Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington - and showing what made them swing so hard.
