Professional jazz ensembles travel to schools in all five boroughs of New York City to present hour-long, interactive performances for students of all ages. There are also school-day performances for small student groups at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola.

DESCRIPTION: What is Swing? What can we do with it? It can tell our story. It can bring us together. In Telling Swing Stories, Drummer LaFrae Sci and the Swing Messengers investigate storytelling in jazz and personify music by Nat Adderley, Sun Ra, and Duke Ellington. Jazz is framed as a wish and prayer, delivering a swinging pulse and joyous noise in this participation-based program. DESCRIPTION: Join Eli Yamin and his Quintet on a Jazz in the Schools tour as they explore jazz in the civil rights era. This tour is designed to complement the NEA Jazz in the Schools Curriculum (www.neajazzintheschools.org), a high school curriculum—developed by Jazz at Lincoln Center in conjunction with the National Endowment of the Arts—that meets nation standards in five subject areas: U.S. history, social studies, arts education/music, civics and government, and geography.
