Jazz Meets Clave October 22, Rose Theater, 8pm
Celebrate the godfathers and early innovators of Afro-Cuban music who first taught the great jazz musicians, like Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker, how to play the intricate polyrhythms of Cuba.
The Music of Sarah Vaughan January 22, The Allen Room, 9:30 pm
Sarah Vaughan had more sheer chops than any six opera singers put together. Aided by two outstanding contemporary vocalists, Mary Stallings and Jane Monheit, music director and pianist Eric Reed will make it clear why the immortal Sarah was properly described as "The Divine One."

It is too often overlooked that Marsalis first came to fame with small ensembles. After getting started with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, he then forged musical history with his own groundbreaking quintet and septet. No matter what size band he’s leading, his music is always breathtakingly innovative.
