Series 7: Duo Tones (DUO)
3 concerts The Allen Room, 7:30pm & 9:30pm Series Packages start at only $180 Very little in the jazz world can compare to the interplay, intimacy and surprise that results when two master musicians meet on an empty stage and weave a musical story. This new series explores jazz at its most fundamental – the instrumental duo. Lionel Loueke & Richard Bona September 26 & 27, 2008 Guitarist Lionel Loueke from Benin and bassist/singer Richard Bona from Cameroon each a virtuoso instrumentalist whose fluency in the folkloric music of their homelands and contemporary jazz vocabulary make them major forces on both the New York and world jazz scenes. Roy Hargrove & Cedar Walton January 9 & 10, 2009 Dubbed “The Maestro” by his peers, pianist Cedar Walton, an influential composer/arranger who approaches every tune with a fresh point of view and trumpeter Roy Hargrove, a melody master whose ravishing tone illuminates any song he plays, transcend a generation gap for their debut in The Allen Room.
McCoy Tyner & Ravi Coltrane May 15 & 16, 2009 The unique connection that exists between them is on display when master pianist and four-time GRAMMY® winner McCoy Tyner joins the groundbreaking and compelling saxophonist Ravi Coltrane for a very special duet performance.
